This wine makes no demands but it wants to. Pinot Blanc is far too humble a grape to make a fuss yet this 2016 vintage boarders on boastful. There is an inner greatness to this often overlooked white that just cannot be ignored. Its nose protrudes with an almost smoky perfume plus exotic (but demure) tropical notes of dragon and star fruit roam assertively. The focussed acidity gives this wine presence for food pairings but it will still only ever accept the supporting role in the marriage. The delicious 2016 Pinot Blanc could easily take centre stage but its ancient nature keeps it strong just at the rim of the spotlight.
